Parents Program
"After taking this course, I have become more open with family members in talking about sex, especially with children and adolescents. This has been valuable for me because in the Hispanic Culture, sex is a taboo subject and by talking about it we may open the doors to various misconceptions that people may have, thereby, preventing undesirable circumstances, such as unwanted pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases."
- PFLSE Graduate Testimonial
CAS-Carrera believes parents play a powerful role in their children’s success; parents and trusted caregivers should be the first and primary sources of sexuality information and support for participants. For these reasons, all parents are invited to attend a multi-week workshop series designed to help caregivers increase their sexual literacy, improve communication skills with family members, and develop a holistic definition of sexuality.
The Parent Family Life and Sexuality Education (PFLSE) curriculum provides adults with a powerful opportunity to share their experiences with peers, strengthen ties with their children, and empower themselves to play a crucial role in preventing young people from becoming parents too soon. The parent program culminates in an annual graduation ceremony.
