Mental Health
Led by trained, licensed Social workers, CAS-Carrera's Mental Health services are delivered via Power Group, a weekly group socialization session which uses group work activities and theme-based content to build coping skills, ehance self-esteem, reduce isolation, and remove obstacles to learning.
- Social workers provide individual, group, and family counseling, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, and assessment and referral services to participants and their families.
- Social workers collaborate with Family Life and Sexuality Educators to deliver comprehensive programming.
- Social workers are on-call 24/7 to meet the needs of participants and their families.
Over 25 Years of Success
In 1970, the Children's Aid Society (CAS) began offering sexuality education workshops for teens, parents and staff at four CAS centers (Dunlevy Milbank, East Harlem, Frederick Douglass and Rhinelander). Soon, it became clear to CAS educators that sexuality education alone wasn't enough to effectively influence the risky behavior of teens.
