Education

Objective:

The Education Component offers tutoring, enrichment activities, homework assistance, and remediation as necessary centering on eliminating dropout rates, improving academic performance, and encouraging the pursuit of higher education. We are successful because we create a learning environment in which every young person can develop his or her gifts and talents and grow academically.

Essential Elements:

• Individual academic plans for each participant are developed
• Daily engagement includes one-on-one or small group tutoring, PSAT and SAT preparation, and college trips
• Each young person receives a minimum of one hour of homework help, enrichment and/or remediation at least four times per week
• Academic maintenance activities occur during the summer months and all young people participate in project-based learning activities
• Saturday school is ongoing at many sites
