Carrera Goes Green! Through the generous support of The Toyota U.S.A. Foundation, the Carrera Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program has launched an Environmental Education Initiative in its Flint, MI and Toledo, OH program sites. The goal of this initiative is to increase young people’s capacity for environmental stewardship and literacy, and we have developed and integrated an innovative greening curriculum into our Job Club component. Given the surge in national attention to the environment and green energy as a viable strategy for economic growth, this initiative contributes greatly to our ability to prepare young people for the world of work and the growing sector of “green jobs”.
Communities like Flint and Toledo have been historically plagued with high rates of unemployment and other social problems, and the current economic downturn has further exacerbated these challenges. The growing number of jobs in this new marketplace represents an opportunity for which our program participants will now be prepared.
